Glue Boards: Do They Really Work?

For years, glue boards have been used to trap scorpionsroachesspiders, ants, rodents, small snakes and other household pests. They are non-toxic, inexpensive, and simple for for even the most novice user. But as with most topics, there is often two sides to the conversation.

Pest problems? We can help. Schedule an appointment today.

Do They Work?

Yes. It’s why they are a common pest control method for all the pest control companies in the Phoenix, AZ areas. This Google Trends report ranks Arizona #2 in the US for the keyword search term, “Glue Boards.”

Disposal Options

It’s true that while some of the most ardent animal-lovers are okay with killing bugs, they aren’t always willing to hurt furry little creatures. Popular belief is that glue pads cause their victims to suffer long, agonizing deaths. This is true—if the homeowner neglects his/her responsibility to find and appropriately dispose of the captured rodent or reptile.

It’s not difficult to check glue boards placed around your home each day, and in the case a rodent, for instance, is captured, there are ways to dispose of it appropriately so as not to cause more suffering than necessary.

OPTION 1: For a dead rodent/pest, simply put on some rubber/latex gloves, pour some bleach on the rodent/pest, place the glue board and pest in a plastic bag (double-bagged is better), tie the top of the bag(s), and throw it in the trash.

OPTION 2: Cover the rodent’s head with the dishtowel to calm it down. Then, wearing a pair of gloves, gently massage a few drops of the olive oil onto the area where the animal is stuck. Message the area until you are able to work the animal free.

Final Thoughts

We don’t like killing rodents, but when it comes to the health and safety of our families, someone has to do it. The good news is that sometimes killing isn’t even necessary.
