What Is TAP® Insulation?

TAP® Pest Control Insulation is an EPA-registered solution for removing and preventing pests from your home. TAP® stands for thermal, acoustical, and pest control. It functions as both a pesticide and cellulose insulation. So, TAP® consists of small pieces of grinded-up old newspapers to conform to all spots in your attic while playing a significant part in pest control. It is the best of both worlds: a functional insulation for better heat flow and reduced sound that simultaneously prevents pests.

Thermal

The primary purpose of all insulation is to provide resistance to heat flow, either trapping heat or cool air depending on the season. It doesn’t let the heat or cool air escape as easily, so it lowers heating and cooling costs. You get the same successful results with TAP® insulation.

TAP® Pest Control Insulation acts as a blanket for your home. Forming small pockets of air, the cellulose fibers create a perfect balance: dense to stop air flow but light enough to trap heat. TAP® prevents heat loss via conduction and convection, and it does it better than others because of how dense it is.

Acoustic

Something most people forget when it comes to insulation is the acoustical benefit – it should work well to reduce the amount of sound that flows through a home’s ceiling. Interestingly enough, the aspects of TAP® that contribute to its thermal success also play a part in its acoustical success. Specifically, heat will flow through solid materials easier just as sound does. So, the small air pockets from its paper fibers reduce the transmission of sound as it bounces from fiber to fiber.

Pest Control

Where TAP® stands out is its focus on pest control. Most people use insulation for their home, so why not upgrade yours to make it have an additional purpose? That’s where TAP® comes in.

The insulation has a specialized form of borate material added to the paper fibers. This borate material is used by pest control professionals (such as Urban Desert Pest Control) to kill insects. And it’s safely added to the insulation during the patented manufacturing process. Once it’s dispersed throughout your attic, the borates within it are evenly distributed which makes it impossible for insects to crawl through it. When an insect comes into contact with the borate particles, the insect will start to die. You won’t have to worry about termitescockroachescricketsants, and more coming into your attic for the foreseeable future. Needless to say, TAP® is a product unlike any other.
