It can be pretty frightening to see bees in and around your home. With painful stings and allergic reactions, it is no wonder these pests are unwelcome in our homes. In this blog, we’ll discuss how you can ensure your home will be nest and bee-free. Read on to learn more!
About Bees in Arizona
Arizona has all kinds of bee species that can bother you and your home. From bumble bees to carpenter bees to long-horned bees, there are many species that call our area home. In fact, over 1,300 species of bees are found in our state. These bees like a variety of different habitats and have different “jobs”, but none are particularly fun to have around. Different types of bees are active at different times of the year, so prevention of nests can, unfortunately, be a year-round battle for us in Arizona.
Tips For Preventing Nesting in Your Home
Though there is no one way to ensure bees cannot enter or nest in your home, there are some steps you can take to help prevent it, such as:
Seal Holes
When bees nest in your home, it means they’re entering from somewhere outside of your home. Walk around your home, inside and out, to check for any holes or gaps where these pests might be able to enter. If you find any potential gaps, be sure to seal them immediately. Caulk or mesh works well to prevent bee entry.
Shut The Door
Sometimes, bees can enter the home by accident when we leave the door open. Be sure to close the door immediately behind you and have other family members do the same. This will help ensure fewer unwanted bee guests.
Remove Old Hives
You will also want to remove the old honeycomb from any previous nests that were in your home. If you give them a home to come to within your home, they will be likely to return and be attracted to that space.
Keep It Tidy
Keep the inside and outside of your home tidy. Bees enjoy unused objects, such as tree limbs or vehicles not in use, to hang out in and around. When you welcome them near your home with these types of things, they are more likely to enter your actual home.
Know When to Get Help
There is certainly a great deal of prevention that can be done using the above steps, but sometimes, it can be best to seek professional help. This is especially true for those that have severe allergies to bee stings or if the problem is particularly bad. Sometimes, professional help can ensure your solution truly sticks and nesting no longer occurs in your home.
